05: Solstice
The angle of the sun — utilizing the calendar of light and energy
Designed by Jeanne Gang and Studio Gang Architects, Solstice on the Park is a 26 story residential tower with 250 apartment dwellings. The building’s facade is angled to allow for maximum sunlight in the winter months allowing for passive heat gain. And conversely, the same angle minimizes direct sunlight and reduces heat in the warmer summer months. This interplay of angle and light serves as a visual theme throughout the building’s interior, environmental graphics and branded marketing materials.
