02: Arc on Armour

Architectural arcades and adaptive reuse, transforming American Red Cross into A-R-C on Armour

Originally built in 1945 this former office building has been converted to 62 multi-family apartment homes. The 2020 adaptive reuse project embraces the building’s original mid-century design while also integrating modern updates to help accommodate for its next chapter as an apartment property. The new name, Arc on Armour, is both a reference to the arcade facade, and also a nod to the original building name “The American Red Cross Building,” A-R-C.

Before

The original arcade remains intact and now interlocks with a new additional set. The arcade graphic references this and it represents the continued life of this building. It represents a connection to the past, with the connections to be made by new neighbors to come going forward. Graphically, the icon always remains open on one end, ready for connection and advancement.
